For many, Galileo was an unmanned spacecraft sent by NASA in 1995 to study the planet Jupiter and its moons. In reality, he was an astronomer and Renaissance pioneer.
Galileo Galilei played a major role in the Scientific Revolution and is known as the Father of science. A Tuscan physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher, he improved the telescope and therefore, astronomical obervations. His discoveries caused him many problems with the Catholic church. At the time, saying that the sun was at the center of the solar system was heresy. He was eventually forced to recant and spent the remainder of his life under house arrest. In 1992, Pope John Paul II expressed regret for how the Galileo affair was treated and officially admitted that the Earth was NOT at the center of the solar system.
