The series only lasted three years, but even today the name Gilligan is still recognized, after all these years, as a comedic American popular cultural icon. The series was cancelled to make room for Gunsmoke, and the castaways were left stranded on the island until 1978! That's when they were finally rescued... temporarily, as they ended up on the same island again! They were finally rescued the next year and the island was developped into a getaway resort! If endless reruns weren't enough, all three seasons have now been released on DVD for your fun and pleasure.
