I am a victim of The Dump
GENERAL: Here is my story: I purchased a sectional and ottoman from the Dump on Dec 5th I believe. I had it delivered on Dec. 11th. As soon as the delivery men left the house we noticed that the sectional was slumped in the middle. So my husband turned over the middle piece an one of the legs was broken and turned under on the inside of the couch. Not only was the leg broken but the particle board that connected to the leg was broken in half. And we also noticed there was multiple tearing in the fabric on that piece too. We immediately called the delivery men (who was just down the street) and told him of the problem. He said he would not pick it up and that we would have to call customer service. So we {my husband and I} contacted customer service immediately. They said that they would have a repair technician call us on Dec 14th to schedule a time to come out and look at it. The problem was that we paid for a brand new sectional not a broken one. They said that the 15% would be deducted from our total payment if we wanted to return it. How can that be? I was livid at this point. They said that the earliest appointment they had for a repair technician to look at it was not till Jan 2010, and if we waited that long it would void our 7 day ability to have any sort of return with it. So that’s where they get you. They make you wait around to the point where you are stuck with it no matter what. They wouldn’t even send out a new sectional to replace the broken one. No one should be stuck with a broken piece of furniture they paid full price for. So I decided to go ahead with the return for now. And I planned on filing a credit card dispute with my credit card company as soon as I received my money back (minus my 15% restocking fee). I was not going to settle being out of the 15% plus the $179 for another delivery pick up charge. Not only was I getting 15% deducted but I also had to pay $179 for them to pick the furniture back up because the first delivery guy wouldn’t turn the truck around and come get it. The delivery date they gave me to pick up my furniture was December 19, 2010. This was 8 days after the original delivery date. I asked the customer service representatives several times if this 1 day after was going to void my ability to receive a return, and they reassured me that it would not be a problem. So the delivery men show up that morning and start loading all of the furniture into their truck. After they took all of the furniture but the one broken piece to the truck. One of the men had me sign two papers one written in his handwriting stating that he picked it up, and the other was a Dump document stating that they had picked it up. Now after being screwed over already by the first delivery guy I was not about to let it happen again. I read each word very carefully so I would know what I was really signing. I signed it after he walked out the door to take the last piece (the broken one) out to the truck. As soon as he stepped inside to collect the papers he said something along the lines of “did you know that piece was broken?” And I said yes that is why you are here picking it up, I am returning it” He then wrote on the paper that I had already singed, “ Center piece of sectional has a broken leg and tearing on the fabric” YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WRITE ON A DOCUMENT THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SIGNED!!! But what proof do I have of that besides my own words? So once again screwed! I told him very strongly that I was not the one who broke it, and that is it was delivered that way. So here I am about a month later still waiting for The Dump to credit me what little they are going to. They stated that the credit would be applied within 10 days of them receiving the return. Well it has defiantly been longer than 10 days and I am still waiting. I called The Dump customer service at the beginning of Jan 2010 to find out where my credit was. They told me that they were going to mail me a check and because of the Holidays it was taking awhile. I live 20 min away from the Irving Dump store. It would only take one day for it to be delivered yet I still have not received it. I paid with a credit card and the right thing to do on their part would be to credit that card, not send a check. I paid immediately why should I not receive my money back immedatley or at least in a timely manner. I have called customer service several times and keep getting the response, “it will be there shortly.” I called my credit card company the other day to see what could be done. They basically said The Dump has all the rights and I have none. They said that they cannot go against The Dumps policy and make them give me a full credit even though they understand my frustration with receiving broken furniture. The credit card company said that if I do not have a check by Feb 5th then I can file a dispute for what they owe me. I really need your help David, I want The Dump to treat their customers with respect and do the right thing. Please help me, and all of the other victims that have fallen victim to the Dump.
